Neil Welch
Neil Welch BSc, MSc, ASCC (Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach); the industry qualification that indicates and signifies professional standards of practice. These qualifications were achieved during 6 years of university study and gaining experience in the field.
Neil Welch has worked with a wide range of sports across a variety of performance levels. He has been providing strength and conditioning support to the British development ski team (now Ambition racing senior team) for 2 years and also works with the England junior alpine ski team. He has also worked with full time and semi-professional athletes in Ski-X and snowboarding. He has developed training programs for amateur athletes from numerous sports including rugby, cricket, triathlon, rowing, discus, weightlifting and distance running.
Neil’s training programs are based on sound theoretical knowledge and up to date research; no exercise, technique or method is used without proper reasoning. They are designed to fit around all of the variables that exist from athlete to athlete in order to obtain the optimal improvement in performance in the shortest time possible. Strong emphasis is placed on fundamental movement skills necessary for all sports, by developing and maintaining these movement patterns potential for injury is reduced and the platform is set on which to build strong athletic performance. He instills a work ethic in his athletes that ensures high quality of performance in training is transferred to the field, track, road or water.
As an athlete, Neil’s background is as varied as those he works with. He has competed at numerous levels leading to familiarity with the requirements for success in many sports. He has played representative rugby union for Irish Exiles, 1st grade colts rugby in Australia and 1st XV rugby in the national leagues. He has played county league cricket in Cheshire and has competed at a junior/school level in tennis, swimming, squash and judo. This has given him an insight into many athletic cultures making him at ease working with athletes from any sport.
